Ford to resume F-150 production Friday at Dearborn Truck Plant

Ford to resume F-150 production Friday at Dearborn Truck Plant”

Ford will resume production of the F-150 on Friday at the company's Dearborn, Michigan plant.

This allowed Ford and Meridian to safely retrieve and relocate tools to more quickly resume part production and work to minimize the financial impact of the stalled plants.

Ford is resuming production of its F-Series pickup trucks, ending assembly line shut downs at two of its most important plants that have lasted more than a week. They are expected to run full production when they return, officials said.

Hinrichs noted the situation is still in a state of flux and changes "hour by hour". Full year results will not be affected. The automaker rebuilt its supply chain for key magnesium parts used in the trucks and in sport utility vehicles including the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Explorer, according to a statement.

"When our team entered the Meridian facility it was still smoldering", said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford's executive vice president of Product Development and Purchasing. Reflecting the urgency to restart production, one 87,000-pound die was loaded into an Antonov An-124 cargo plane and shipped to another Meridian site in Nottingham, UK, in just 30 hours door-to-door. Meridian's plant in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, suffered extensive damage after an explosion and fire in early May.

On Monday, its Kansas City and F-Series Super Duty truck production in Louisville, Kentucky, will go back online.
