Gay Alabama lawmaker suggests governor is lesbian; Ivey calls it "disgusting lie"

Gay Alabama lawmaker suggests governor is lesbian; Ivey calls it

Todd said that she had "heard for years" that Ivey is gay and that she made her girlfriend move out when she became governor.

"It's a disgusting lie being pushed by a paid left-wing liberal political operative".

"There is absolutely no truth to it", Hancock added. Ivey became governor in April, 2017, when the former governor resigned and she is seeking her first full term.

Dawson, an evangelist who has written several books including the Complete Evangelism Guidebook, said that Alabama gave money to Free2Be, an organization that provided services for LGBTQ victims of domestic violence. Free2Be, the statement says, was the only organization seeking this specific grant in 2014.

Gov. Kay Ivey's campaign is reacting after one of her opponents in the GOP primary race called a news conference Tuesday morning and slammed her for "betray [ing]" the people of Alabama and demanding an apology. The outspoken Todd might be remembered by LGBT Alabamans for her attempt to revise the state's archaic sex ed guidelines that include lessons on homosexuality being socially unacceptable.

"It's an identity issue", she said.

Ivey, who has been married to a man but is now divorced, has had an interesting trajectory in politics. And perhaps totally unconnected, the state's then-governor, Robert Bentley, went on to resign after an affair with a political adviser was uncovered.

Earlier this month, Ivey signed a bill allowing faith-based discrimination against same-sex adoptive parents in the state, saying it protects "religious liberty in Alabama". She has no children. The Executive Director of the organization, Alex Smith, stated, "Scott Dawson is clearly desperate for attention in the late stages of the made the unfortunate choice to use LGBTQ Alabamians as a political punching bag". "So that's what I plan to do, vote for Republican nominee Roy Moore".

Earlier this year, INTO spoke with Todd about Moore's run for the State Supreme Court and she expressed how hard it is to run as a democrat in Alabama.

"LGBTQ issues still continue to be highly negative here in the state of Alabama, more so than anywhere else, so if you're looking for a way to chip away at a big-time front runner this is a good divisive issue to do it", said Jackson.

Dawson said he doesn't want anyone to be bullied, pointing to his own childhood in which he was bullied for a weight problem. "It's mind boggling. And these are the people that call themselves Christians".

Ivey, 73, is also a known Trump supporter and is part of a push for the president to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
