Chris Johnson's Forecast | Alberto remnants set to impact the Commonwealth”

A CNN image released on May 26, 2018, shows where Subtropical Storm Alberto is likely to make landfall on Monday between New Orleans and Destin, Florida, before moving into MS and Alabama by Tuesday. With heavy rains and rising tides, some flooding is also a possibility.

The forecast from the European model shows the intense moisture feed over the southern Peninsula, meaning the coverage and intensity of the rain is expected to increase. Subtropical Storm Alberto is driving north through the Gulf of Mexico, threatening heavy rains and winds to the USA southern coastal states.

"Western Florida and the Gulf Coast of Florida will be in line for some possible tropical storm conditions over the next couple days", said Moss.

Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect along the entire Gulf Coast.

Florida, Alabama and MS declare states of emergency; Jonathan Serrie reports from Florida. The storm prompted Florida, Alabama and MS to launch emergency preparations over the weekend.

On Sunday, Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in all 67 of Florida's counties.

Though the Atlantic hurricane season doesn't officially start until Friday, Alberto has become the first named storm this year, throwing disarray into long holiday weekend plans along Florida's Gulf Coast.

Alberto is expected to travel across the eastern Gulf of Mexico Saturday night through Monday and approach the northern part of the Gulf where it could make landfall Monday night. And in the Tampa Bay area on the central Gulf Coast, cities offered sandbags for homeowners anxious about floods.

The NWS said waves as high as 18 feet could pound the popular Gulf beaches in Baldwin County, Alabama, and northwestern Florida on Monday.

Subtropical Storm Alberto strengthened slightly overnight as it continued to move over the eastern Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center, but Louisiana continues to appear to be in the clear when it comes to the heavier rainfall associated with the system.

Sunday afternoon and evening are expected to bring heavy rain and winds between about 15 and 18 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.

"It's not going to rain all day", Osterberg said.

With a subtropical storm, the strongest winds and thunderstorms are located far away from the center, even though they may be just as strong as those found in a tropical storm.

Alberto is expected to produce heavy rainfall and flooding over western Cuba, South Florida and the Florida Keys, the National Hurricane Center said Sunday.
