Subtropical Storm Alberto to make landfall on Florida Panhandle within hours

Subtropical Storm Alberto to make landfall on Florida Panhandle within hours”

A tropical storm warning remained in effect stretching from Florida's Suwannee River to the border of Alabama and Mississippi.

The Florida Keys and the rest of state can expect the same amount of rain and majority of the stat is on a Flood Watch, but there could isolated rainfall up to ten inches.

STORM SURGE: The combination of storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline.

A tornado threat exists in the front-right quadrants of the storm, which today is northern Florida and most of Georgia and SC.

A subtropical storm like Alberto has a less defined and cooler center than a tropical storm, and its strongest winds are found farther from its center.

On Sunday, Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in all 67 of Florida's counties.

Hazardous storm surge warnings were in effect for portions of the Eastern Gulf Coast, including areas Alberto was not expected to pass directly through, according to the National Hurricane Center. On the current path it will make landfall as a subtropical torm. somewhere across the western Florida Panhandle.

Alberto is predicted to move northward at a faster rate after making landfall in the western Florida Panhandle on Monday. As the center of Alberto pulls north and slightly west, the tail is forecast to swing toward South Florida.

The first named storm of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season is projected to continue moving north before turning to the north-northwest Sunday evening and Monday.

Gusty showers were to begin lashing parts of Florida on Sunday, and authorities were warning of the possibility of flash flooding.

Even with subtropical storm Alberto heading for the Panhandle, most locals and visitors alike were not letting it spoil their Memorial Day weekend on Sunday.

"Whether you're a resident of this state or just visiting, you need to stay updated on this evolving tropical system", Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant said in a statement. Onshore areas along the coast also account for about 45 percent of USA refining capacity and 51 percent of gas processing.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring more waves of heavy rain, but a total washout is still unlikely. One to four hurricanes could be "major" with sustained winds of at least 111 miles per hour.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Ryan Rogers said the storm would be "coming very close to shore" around 8 a.m. Monday and make landfall around noon.
