Kim Kardashian visits Trump to make clemency plea for drug-trafficking grandmother

Kim Kardashian visits Trump to make clemency plea for drug-trafficking grandmother”

"Prison reform is a complex issue that requires expertise and knowledge of where some of the greatest racial disparities lie".

Kim Kardashian West is expected to meet President Donald Trump to discuss a potential pardon for a 63-year-old great grandmother who is serving life in prison.

'It is our hope that the President will grant clemency to Ms. Alice Marie Johnson who is serving a life sentence for a first-time, non-violent drug offense'.

Following her sit-down with Trump, Kardashian West will then attend a dinner at Kushner and Ivanka's home.

By the looks of both parties' tweets, the meeting went well. The star hired her personal legal team to represent Johnson after watching a 2013 documentary that chronicled her experience in prison.

Indeed, Trump has called for getting tougher on drug dealers, including suggesting that some should receive the death penalty. Sure, at best, Trump will actually take what Kardashian West tells him into consideration and pardon Johnson.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed that Kardashian was visiting the White House but would not confirm the people with whom she was meeting.

"She's always stood out to me as being exceptional", says Ms Povah. He's also mulling over whether to pardon Martha Stewart and commute the sentence of imprisoned former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

"I think that she really deserves a second chance at life", Kardashian West told Mic. The reasons are unclear.

But Mr. Kushner has encountered opposition from Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a hard-liner who a year ago began reversing the Obama administration's efforts to ease penalties, like mandatory minimum sentences, for some nonviolent drug violations.

Johnson was sentenced to life in prison without parole in 1996 for a first-time, non-violent drug offence.

"The New York Post saying this stuff about Kim, I thought that was pretty despicable", said Sunny Hostin. "She is genuinely committed in her quest and has the sweetest heart for me". "I made some bad choices which have not only affected my life, but have impacted my entire family", she said in a February 2017 letter in the court record. "More time in prison can not accomplish more justice".
