Zinedine Zidane resigns as Real Madrid boss - official announcement due”

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has shocked the football world by announcing his departure from Real Madrid on the back of becoming the first coach to win three straight UEFA Champions League titles.

"He felt he had talk to one of the leaders in the club and that was Sergio Ramos".

Zidane, 45, told a news conference at the Bernabeu Stadium he had "taken the decision not to continue next year".

"Being a coach is extremely tiring - more so at a club like Real Madrid, When I feel there is nothing more to give, I'll walk away", he added.

"I think it's the moment, both for me, the team and the club (to step down)".

"After three years, the players need a new voice and that is why it is time to change", stated Zidane at a press conference.

Real beat Liverpool 3-1 in the final in Kiev on Saturday, making Zidane the first coach in history to win three successive Champions League titles. I have to thank the fans for all their support and love. I will be close to this club all my life, but the decision makes a lot of sense. "I thank him for the work he has done".

Zidane, the former Real, Juventus and Bordeaux midfielder, is understood to be under contract in Madrid until 2020 but will call time on his spell in charge after a third place finish in La Liga, behind Barcelona and City rivals Atletico Madrid.
