Benedict Cumberbatch 'saves cyclist from four attackers in London'

Oh, you just couldn't make this up.

Cumberbatch, however, insisted he was not a hero.

We saw how Venom and The Dark Knight Rises actor Tom Hardy leapt into action when a pair of teens stole a motorbike, and now there's been another instance of a comic book movie star bringing his Hollywood heroism to the real world.

The 41-year-old actor spotted the attack while passing by and jumped in.

It all took place back in November, but details have only just begun to emerge.

The "Sherlock" actor jumped out of an Uber taxi to fight off four miscreants who allegedly smashed the cyclist over the head with a bottle, The Telegraph reported.

The attack took place near Baker Street, the home of his character Sherlock Holmes.

Deliveroo's staff do noble work, bringing food straight to the door of people who are too hungover to leave the sofa, so we're glad the thugs didn't get away with this.

The Uber driver, who was taking Mr Cumberbatch and his wife to a club, said, "The cyclist was lucky, Benedict's a hero".

The 41-year-old actor leapt out of the auto and reportedly "dragged the four muggers" off the cyclist after they allegedly used a bottle to smash his head.

As per reports by worldwide media, the actor had stopped the vehicle and had yelled "leave him alone" at the thugs before he jumped into the scene and hauled the four men off the sufferer. Bystanders told The Sun that he shouted "Leave him alone!" and then pulled the muggers off their victim.

"It was only then I recognised Benedict".

Driver Manuel Dias added that it was "surreal" seeing the Sherlock star intervene in the incident near Baker Street.

"Imagine what was going through the muggers" minds at this point. Unusual and Sherlock Holmes, find him solving problems through magic or cunning, respectively.

"It was only then I recognised Benedict".

The driver said he grabbed one of the men and Benedict got hold of another and added the star knew exactly what to do.
