Rafael Nadal dismantles Gasquet to stay on title course — ATP Roland Garros”

The 12-time grand slam victor will instead meet another Spaniard, Fernando Verdasco, in the last 16.

Novak Djokovic lives to fight another day at the French Open after a hard-fought third round match against Roberto Bautista Agut, in an occasionaly testy encounter during which the Serb shattered a raquet in anger after fluffing an easy victor.

He is only three behind his own haul of 32 straight sets won between 2007-2009, nine behind the record mark of six-times victor Bjorn Borg of 41 between 1979 and 1981. Bautista Agut has won six of his last nine matches on clay court.

"I have to embrace this kind of situation in life where it's different", Djokovic said on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old, who is still looking for a first Grand Slam title, will play for the second straight day on Thursday, after the match with Riske was pushed back from Tuesday due to rain.

Verdasco, 34, earned a shock 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 6-4 win over Grigor Dimitrov - the Bulgarian fourth seed and reigning ATP World Tour Finals champion. I know he's the most hard player for me because of his style of play.

But Nadal was in no mood for a marathon and he bagged the first set on serve before putting Gasquet to the sword again at the beginning of the second and third sets, making sure there was no hope of a comeback amongst the Frenchman's supporters. "I'm not-and I don't want to be the same person and player that I was two, three, four years ago".

The 23-year-old, who arrived in Paris having won her second straight Italian Open title, saw off her Slovakian opponent 6-3, 6-4 and will next take on Romanian 31st seed Mihaela Buzarnescu. But by the time he survived a flurry of breaks in the third set, he had turned his attitude around and was amping up the crowd.

The former world number one cut a frustrated figure for long periods of his clash with Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut, the 13th seed.

That gave him the impetus in the fourth set, going two breaks up before taking his second match point with a thumping overhead that Bautista Agut could not reach. It's just different. I have different life.

The 30-year-old rode the rollercoaster of emotions all the way to relief after match point.

"But it was not easy to go on court recently, I don't know how I managed it".

However, he eventually ran out of energy - physically and mentally - as he was unable to reach the last 16 for the third straight year.
