Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne admits she will lose provincial election”

Global spoke with University of Guelph political science professor Tamara Small, who characterized Wynne's move as a selfless attempt to rescue the Ontario Liberal Party from oblivion: "She's saying, 'I'm not going to destroy this organization with my own personal hubris'".

Former Toronto mayor Mel Lastman has endorsed PC Leader Doug Ford and his team seven days before the province's voters head to the polls to choose their next government.

"If your concern is that you'd be electing me or electing a Liberal government, that's not going to happen", she said. "I don't think we can actually say that", Wynne said.

Provincial support could take the form of worker training or education but the Liberal party is still figuring out how to best support the industry if the tariffs persist, Wynne said.

Brenna Keatinge, a self-described "very progressive" Toronto resident in the normally Liberal riding of St Paul's, said she used to consider voting Liberal when the party seemed the only viable contender against the Conservatives. She said that committee would be modelled on one that looked into former premier Dalton McGuinity's decision to cancel two natural gas power plants.

"They have seen the results of our 15 years of government with more jobs, a stronger economy and investments in mental health, hospitals and schools, but they simply don't like her". It's about the people of this province.

"I know that there are people who are trying to decide how to vote on June 7 and they are anxious about a majority (Progressive Conservative) Doug Ford government", Wynne said.

She says she will keep campaigning up until Thursday and won't say if she will stay on a Liberal leader after the election.

"There needs to be someone there to watch out that the things that we've put in place aren't being cut", says Hoggarth, who reiterates that a vote for her rival NDP candidate is ultimately a vote for the Tories.

"It became clear - and she conceded [that] - that she can not win the election".

"By voting Liberal you can keep the next government, Conservative or NDP, from acting too extreme - one way or the other".

Ford, meanwhile, had little to say about Wynne's announcement, noting only that the election is about change and people are fed up with the Liberals.

Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath visited the campaign office of London North Centre candidate Judy Bryant in London, Ont. on Friday May 16, 2014.

"They're for the working people". I don't believe this is a man that people want to hand Ontario over to without putting him on the shortest of short leashes.

Cochrane explains that the Liberals and New Democrats have offered "virtually identical" policies in recent years, which means many traditional Liberal supporters are "primed to vote NDP". The NDP leader has been pushing for Liberal voters to join them to stop a Ford win.
