Wynne admitting defeat may be the opening Horwath needs

Wynne admitting defeat may be the opening Horwath needs”

"Now, a vote for Kathleen Wynne and a vote for Doug Ford mean the same thing".

She claimed, without a trace of irony, that Liberals are needed to "keep the next government in check".

"The NDP and Liberals are trying to buy our votes with a long list of promise - promises they can't keep - and they come with hefty price tags", Lastman said in a video released Friday by the Ontario PCs. "And I'm okay with that", Wynne said.

Marie-France Lalonde called Wynne's comments "honourable" and a clear message that people should still vote for Liberal candidates to prevent the other parties from forming a majority government.

It's more than a bit rich coming from a leader whose party has for the last two elections told voters to come together and vote Liberal to stop Conservatives from winning.

But NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said Sunday that she would not accept help from the Liberals to prop up an NDP government.

The premier - tears streaming down her face and her voice breaking up at times - appealed to voters to set aside their feelings about her and support Liberal candidates so that they can keep the next government in check.

Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath speaks as she greets senior citizen homeowners at a campaign event in Mississauga, Ont., on Saturday, June 2, 2018.

Des Rosiers said she still believes her chances are strong in the riding, which elected her in a by-election only two years ago.

Despite persistently low polling heading into the campaign, Wynne said she and the party believed they could execute a comeback.

"By voting Liberal you can keep the next government, Conservative or NDP, from acting too extreme - one way or the other. Let's not go from bad to worse".

Up in Parry Sound-Muskoka, Liberal candidate Brenda Rhodes says she's received a lot of support from constituents, which fuels her commitment to fighting for a seat at the legislature.

"We need an enduring vision for Sudbury as the cultural and economic hub of the North, and I'm prepared to provide the leadership to deliver on that vision".

"People probably will look back in four years, and think "what have we done", says Hoggarth. The misunderstanding or the deliberate twisting of what's happening here is this: "I have said that the position that the NDP has put forward on back-to-work legislation as an example that demonstrates that there is a rigidity of ideas, a rigidity of thought that is unsafe is what I am objecting to". "We will fix this".

Manitoba is PC versus NDP, Saskatchewan is Saskatchewan Party versus NDP, British Columbia the BC Liberals (a conservative party that's not affiliated with the Liberal Party of Canada) versus the NDP, and the next Alberta election will be fought between the United Conservative Party and the NDP.

"Today's announcement from the Premier changes nothing for me - this is an election I plan to win", Thibeault said in a statement Saturday.

"So I think electorally, it's strategic, but as a leader of a party, I actually think it's really selfless".
