North Korean leader's private jet departs Pyongyang for Singapore - Yonhap”

"I'm glad to say that as of now, it's all systems go", he said.

"We're going to raise every issue, every issue will be raised", he said.

It's a life-changing event.
He also indicated that South Korea, China and Japan would be prepared to invest in the North to boost its besieged economy. I'd like to accomplish more than that, but at a minimum we'll have met each other, seen each other. This is a leader that's really an unknown personality, people don't know much about him. He has that opportunity and he won't have that opportunity again.

Balakrishnan, who said Singapore was "happy to play [its] part for world peace", will be hoping local authorities will not have to deal with many more such ugly scenes in days to come. "It's a one-time shot", he said at a press conference, adding that the North Koreans had been working "very well with us" ahead of the summit.

Former High Court Justice Michael Kirby.

Kim is expected to arrive Sunday in Singapore, but it seems he won't be taking his official plane, which is called "Chammae-1" and named after the goshawk, North Korea's national bird. "And I think we should make that clear".

"As well as that there are public executions, there are chronic food shortages, people actually starve to death". He stressed it better that the leaders are talking than maintaining what he describes as the "infantile" silent treatment policy of the past. China - North Korea's only ally - has long pushed for dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang.

During his 14 trips to North Korea, he has attended celebrations, participated in meetings and visited schools and hospitals.

"I was so impressed and taken aback by the facilities and the treatment that the old age people in the DPRK and Pyongyang". I think it would be good for the United States.

His two friendship medals from the rogue state are among his most prized possessions.

Jenny Town, research analyst at the Stimson Center and managing editor of 38 North, said she expects to see at least some clarification of what the negotiated end goal is and sense of time frame for trying to achieve it.

"It gives me an indication that the hostility by the average Australians against the DPRK is reducing and there's more interest in learning about the country".

The Singapore coastal hotel where Mr Trump and Mr Kim will meet is overseen by a wealthy Singapore family.

But if you are looking for greater details into what the North Korean leader may offer in Singapore or what messages he could seek to convey to President Trump, the North Korean state media will offer little help.

But it's not completely barren territory for students of North Korean media.

Engagement is the only option.

The president's remarks come two days after he said he "doesn't need to prepare very much" for the meeting which the US hopes will lead toward an agreement for North Korea to end its nuclear program. Three years later North and South Korea became sovereign nations, and two years after that, on June 25, 1950, the North sneak-attacked its southern rival, looking to unify the peninsula by force.

While Singapore has authoritarian leanings, it is still a thriving bastion of capitalism and wealth, and Kim will be performing his high-stakes diplomatic tight-rope walk in front of 3,000 global journalists, including a huge contingent from the ultra-aggressive South Korean press - sometimes referred to by Pyongyang as "reptile media" - two of whom were arrested by Singapore police investigating a report of trespassing at the residence of the North Korean ambassador.

After cutting short his participation over the icy reception, Trump veered within hours from espousing a great relationship with the USA allies to tweeting that his host, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, had been "Very dishonest & weak" in post-summit remarks. And if the talks fail, he and South Korea would face the fallout.

Notably, the law imposes restrictions not just on these North Korean entities, but on any companies, banks or other entities that might want to do business with entities controlled by the North Korean government.
