E3 2018: New Marvel Spider-Man Footage Shows Some Main Villains”

Well, that felt a little bit odd, didn't it? A cinematic trailer starts out with Spider-Man approaching an enormous prison in the water by riding on the side of a helicopter. He's back in this gameplay demo/trailer/whatever from Sony's E3 showcase, and he's brought some friends.

However, it seems the developer is keeping the big bad of the game hidden for now, who looks to be the one orchestrating all the chaos as well as providing upgraded suits for the villains to cause more carnage. It's clear to see that Ghost of Tsushima is really nailing a distinct and cinematic aesthetic, instantly evoking romanticised imagery from classic samurai movies.

Marvel's Spider-Man will arrive exclusively on PlayStation 4 on September 7. The game was first announced in 2016, and we've been patiently waiting for it ever since.

The show begins at 6 p.m. PT.

E3 2018: See all the best from Sony's showcase

The game definitely screams Sucker Punch with its smooth, seamless gameplay.

While we're not sure if the Avengers themselves exist as NPCs or playable characters of any sort in the game itself, we can confirm at the very least that they are in the game in-universe and exist as entities within the game world.

None of these games were given release dates, they weren't even given release years, and only the fourth game of the bunch, Spider-Man, is in the final stages of development. It was a good way for Sony to end the show, with something tangible, something bombastic, something that's brighter, breezier and coming out in just a few months time. While the earlier demo seen during the conference was focused on welcoming Spider-Man's iconic villains into the fold, the gameplay demo gave a better impression of how the game will function moment to moment. While confined, the area outside the facility looks to be quite large, and Spider-Man is able to swing around the area.
