Aeon Flux returns to TV as a live-action series

Aeon Flux returns to TV as a live-action series”

Jeff Davis (showrunner of movie reboot Teen Wolf) will be writing the drama as well as executive producing alongside The Walking Dead's Gale Anne Hurd (who also produced the film version).

The live-action series will take fans back to the "biohacking rebels" attempting to save humanity from some totalitarian baddies, all while Aeon Flux becomes one of science fiction's coolest spy/assassins.

Aeon Flux is making a comeback. Those shorts were followed up with five additional short-form animated episodes in 1992, and in 1995, MTV ordered a 10-episode season of half-hour episodes as its own stand-alone series. But after the critical and commercial disappointment of the big-screen Aeon Flux, MTV is having another go at it - this time, on its home turf.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that MTV is revisiting their Aeon Flux property and is going forward in rebooting the property into a live-action series.

MTV originally aired the Aeon Flux animated series in 1991 as a six-part sequence of shorts that were a part of the Liquid Television program. Animator Peter Chung created the original series. Sources told THR that MTV is preparing to launch a studio that will further monetize its library as part of Viacom's push to revitalize its cable brands.

In 2005, Paramount Pictures, Lakeshore Entertainment, and Hurd's Valhalla Motion Pictures banner teamed for an Aeon Flux feature film.

The inventive assassin thriller ran for three animated seasons on MTV back in the early to mid 1990s, eventually getting a film adaptation starring Theron and Frances McDormand in 2005. Adding insult to injury, the movie was panned by both critics and audiences, earning an abysmal nine percent score from its reviews, and a mere 39 rating from movie-goers. The first few seasons of Teen Wolf were actually quite good, and set up the supernatural series to be this generation's answer to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
