"Avengers: Infinity War" Breaks $2 Billion At Box Office

(Avatar remains the all-time global champ, with $2.79 billion in grosses.) What sets Infinity War apart, however, is the fact it was released in April, giving an early jump-start to the summer movie season. The superhero mash-up film crossed $2 billion dollars at the box office this past weekend.

The other three members of this exclusive club are "Avatar" ($2.788 billion), "Titanic" ($2.188 billion) and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ($2.068 billion).

Infinity War completes the feat in its 48th day of release.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the third Avengers film, and the 19th film in the MCU, eked passed the $2 billion mark on Monday. Infinity War also holds the record for the biggest domestic debut ever with $257.7 million in its opening weekend.

Domestically, "Avengers: Infinity War" is the fifth-highest grossing pic of all time, with $656.1 million through June 11.

Internationally, it is the third-highest grossing release ever with $1.346 billion, and its combined domestic and global debuts set a record of $640.5 million. It's safe to assume that it will, but it was safe to assume that Solo was going to be a big box office hit as well...and it wasn't. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality.

Disney looks to repeat, or even possibly exceed, the success of "Infinity War" a little less than a year from now when its sequel "Avengers 4" opens on May 3, 2019. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.
