Conmebol refuses to hear Morocco's 2026 pitch pre-FIFA Congress vote

Conmebol refuses to hear Morocco's 2026 pitch pre-FIFA Congress vote”

David Beckham has come out in support of the joint North American bid for the 2026 World Cup, saying a tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States would be "very exciting".

Morocco's 2026 World Cup bid leaders have been refused permission to make a final presentation to FIFA's South American voters ahead of the all-important ballot on June 13.

The question is whether FIFA's recent evaluation of both bids may matter during the vote and how much weight voters will give to the technical evaluations.

The delegation of Morocco's 2026 FIFA World Cup bid includes Secretary of State for Water, Charafate Afailal; Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Rkia Derham; Abderahim Souiri, a member of the Executive Board of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF); and chairwoman of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sport for All, Nezha Bidouane.

Both candidates now have to be approved at a meeting on 10 June before a vote of the 207 Federation Internationale de Football Association members three days later.

The only part of the evaluation that either bid scored perfectly on was ticketing and hospitality where United 2026 was awarded five out of five. The United candidacy forecasts $14.3 billion in revenues, the North African bidders promised only $7.2 billion dollars.

"What our task has been is to make sure the process is as objective, as clear as possible, and to highlight the pros and the cons of everything", Infantino said.

In an unprecedented show of continental unity, the joint bid if successful, it would be the first finals held in North America since the USA hosted the 1994 tournament.

"I think this United Bid is a very important message to the world because football is powerful; it can put together countries and the message of bringing all the three countries together is the future of football".

We had the opportunity to share views, on the forthcoming vote for the 2026 World Cup bid.

Infantino told reporters from news agencies that it was premature to talk of a 48-team tournament in Qatar, which he stressed would have to be consulted first, and said he had no idea whether Iran could be a co-host.

Any consultation on the 2022 World Cup must reach a decision by FIFA's June 2019 congress, he said.

"Accordingly, I am happy to say the government is supporting the United Bid" he said.

Infantino defended his decision to consider a $25 billion offer from unnamed investors for two new tournaments - a revamped version of the Club World Cup and a global Nations League for national teams. "We need to get away in FIFA from having just one tournament, one month, every four years and thinking that this is enough to develop football in the world".

"I can not disclose (details) in that $25 billion", said Infantino who was not concerned about which country the investment originated from.
