Criterium du Dauphine Summaries”

Saint-Gervais - Welsh rider Geraint Thomas supplied Team Sky with their sixth Criterium du Dauphine success in eight years on Sunday.

Yates finished the punishing 136-kilometre ride from Moutiers to Saint-Gervais four seconds ahead of Spaniard Daniel Navarro, with Frenchman Romain Bardet in third place, nine seconds behind the stage victor.

Thomas finished 60 seconds ahead of nearest rival Adam Yates, victor of the final stage, with an overall time of 24 hours, 43 minutes and 12 seconds.

"Throughout the race I was never thinking about the end result, it was always about the next day or the next climb".

"Ive been feeling good all year", the Irishman said after the race.

The race is a good indicator of form heading into the Tour de France, which takes place from 7-29 July.

"It's not a great situation for him, the team or just cycling in general", Thomas said. I get to ride the races I want and I am a leader in majority.

"My role in the team will be as one of the protected guys, Froome is going to be one of the leaders". "They're super hard climbing stages and even harder over the weekend".

The 32-year-old Thomas, victor of Paris-Nice in 2016, is coming into form at just the right time with the Tour de France a month away.

Daniel Navarro (Cofidis) had looked set for a solo victory, as the last remaining escapee from the day's break - spending 105km of the 136km stage at the front of the race - but Yates swept past him to grab the seventh pro win of his career.

Thomas managed to close the gap on the peloton within 15km, but was far from happy with the conduct of AG2R as he informed Romain Bardet when he caught up with the French rider.
