Dancing FBI agent whose gun went off faces charges

Dancing FBI agent whose gun went off faces charges”

An FBI agent who accidentally shot a man after losing his gun doing a backflip June 2 at a Denver bar now faces second-degree assault charges.

"It is shocking that the only shooting to ever occur at our establishment came about as a result of an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent entering our distillery tasting room carrying a loaded firearm without our knowledge, in violation of our rules", the posting said.

Chase Bishop, 29, is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning and has been booked into the Downtown Denver Detention Center, per the jail records.

Cellphone video of the incident that has since gone viral on social media shows Bishop dancing on a dance floor in the crowded bar when he suddenly did a backflip. Bishop has been charged with assault and additional charges might be filed. During the flip, his gun falls out of his trousers and when Bishop picks it up, the gun fires. He then walks off the dance floor with his hands up. The agent was taken to police headquarters and later released to a supervisor with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Mile High Spirits said on its Facebook page that the bar's management was "deeply saddened" by the incident.

Authorities have not said what kind of gun the agent was carrying, or why it accidentally fired.

Bishop works out of the FBI's Washington, D.C., office, according to 9News.

A man who identified himself in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" as Thomas Reddington was shot in the leg. "Then I looked down at my leg and see some brown residue".

Denver police spokesman Doug Schepman said in an email that once the investigation into the shooting is complete, the department will review the actions of its officers. "I'm still thinking it's a firework. all of a sudden from the knee down my leg became completely red", Reddington, 24, said.
