Porsche 911 Speedster Concept - a farewell to the 991?

Porsche 911 Speedster Concept - a farewell to the 991?”

Whilst Porsche didn't say which of the two would be named Taycan, it's safe to assume (see below) that the sports auto model will receive the name as it's slated to begin production next year.

Porsche is the latest in a long line of companies that decided to make an extra buck by charging monthly fees to people in need of information about their electric vehicles.

Two permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) with a system output of over 440kW accelerate the electric sports auto to 100km/h in well under 3.5 seconds and to 200km/h in under twelve seconds. Combined with the performance, it will have a range of over 500 km. Porsche announced the name for its first purely electric series as part of the “70 years of sports cars” ceremony.

The name Macan is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger, with connotations of suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics.

Chasing for electromobility is one of Porsche's main goals for the future, and the company plans to invest more than six billion euros by 2022, double the expenditure it originally planned.

Elsewhere, the sports vehicle maker has committed to a €6 billion (£5.3 billion) investment in electromobility - including the Taycan and future variants' development, electrification of its current cars, expanding production sites as well as charging infrastructure. The existing engine plant is being expanded to manufacture electric motors, and a new body shop will also be developed.

Porsche is also said to be developing an 800-volt system to allow a charge rate of up to 350kW. Expect the Tesla-fighting Porsche Taycan to launch in 2019, followed by a Cross Turismo variant not long afterward.

Founded by Ferdinand Porsche in Stuttgart, Germany, Porsche has grown to become one of the world's most renowned luxury sports auto manufacturers. At the charging pedestal, the user simply identifies themselves either using a QR code via the app or with their "Porsche ID card".
