Syria war: Assad denies claims about Russia dictating his moves”

The prime minister said that even though Iran's departure from Syria is going to be a "long process, I believe that if you set a goal, if you know where you are going, you have a greater chance of getting there".

"Russia never coordinated with anyone against Syria, either politically or militarily, and that's contradiction; how could they help the Syrian Army advancing and at the same time work with our enemies in order to destroy our army", Assad said, stressing that both Russian Federation and Iran's presence in his country is legitimate.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad denied that military ally Russian Federation was making decisions for him, but said it was natural for there to be differences of opinion between allies, in an interview published on Sunday.

Russian air strikes and military advisers have since helped regime troops seize back more than half the country.

Iranian General Masoud Jazayeri was quoted as stating that "the U.S. and Israel are making desperate attempts to change the situation at the border" and that "the Zionist regime's greatest fear is the presence of Muslim fighters near the border". Assad said that this is "not true" and that Moscow had no prior knowledge of any attacks.

Assad reiterated his long-held position that the uprising against his rule was part of a plot to remove a leader that did not go along with Western policies in the region.

"Russia never coordinated with anyone against Syria, either politically or militarily, and that's [a] contradiction", he said.

Syrian President Bashar Assad denied Russian Federation coordinated Israeli strikes inside his country, noting it was impossible for the Putin regime to both aid the Syrian Army and, at the same time, "work with our enemies in order to destroy our army".

Assad lambasted the American and British interventions, saying they were "breaching the sovereignty of Syria".

Netanyahu said the new understandings were achieved during his three-day tour to Europe last week, during which he met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

"The whole approach toward Syria in the West is, 'we have to change this government; we have to demonise this President, because they don't suit our policies anymore.'" he said.

The interview, according to the Mail on Sunday, was Assad's first with a British journalist since 2015.
