United States to Suspend War Games With South Korea After Kim Summit

United States to Suspend War Games With South Korea After Kim Summit”

Pompeo says he was there when Trump talked about it with Kim.

"Look, president Trump is a deal-maker", he said.

Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday to slam the media for its insistence that the USA gave up too much in its deal with Kim. The face to face was unthinkable just months earlier as the two leaders traded insults and nuclear threats.

And that ties in with what North Korea, South Korea and Russian Federation had already discussed at the Far East summit in Vladivostok last September, as Asia Times reported; economic integration between Russian Federation and the two Koreas, including the crucial connectivity of a future Trans-Korean railway with the Trans-Siberian.

Russian Federation is welcoming the outcome of the summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Kim, for his part, said the leaders had "decided to leave the past behind" and promised, "The world will see a major change".

Kim, having already demonstrated credible nuclear and missile capabilities, conceded nothing beyond Pyongyang's longstanding, meaningless and mendacious commitment to denuclearization that it has been peddling for two and a half decades. Before leaving himself, Trump tossed out pronouncements on U.S. alliances, human rights and the nature of the accord that he and Kim had signed.

Trump's Tuesday pledge appeared to reverse that position.

Yun Duk-min of the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul said the promises made at Tuesday's summit did little to advance previous agreements between the USA and the North over the latter's disarmament-which Pyongyang had backed out of in the past-and even "lacked verification details" included in those deals.

"At this moment, we need to figure out President Trump's accurate meaning and intention" on the exercises, said a statement from the office of South Korean President Moon Jae-in, CNN reported.

Hyuki Ahn, who is the Jecheon, South Korea, society president of the Sister Cities Association of Spokane, said she has been talking with siblings in South Korea daily about the summit.

The White House did not immediately respond to the North Korean characterisation of the deal.

Michael Mazarr, a senior political scientist at the RAND Corporation in Virginia, also noted that Tuesday's agreement was "far less detailed" than "a whole series of denuclearization agreements that they had signed over the years".

"At the same time, there needs to be a peace mechanism for the peninsula, to resolve North Korea's reasonable security concerns", he added.

"Trump expressed his intention to halt the US -south Korea joint military exercises, which the DPRK side regards as provocation, over a period of good-will dialogue between the DPRK and the USA, offer security guarantees to the DPRK and lift sanctions against it along with advance in improving the mutual relationship through dialogue and negotiation", the KCNA reported.

Trump says on Twitter after returning from his Singapore summit that "we save a fortune by not doing war games, as long as we are negotiating in good faith".

However, Japan's defense ministry said the joint military exercises were necessary for East Asian security. and it would seek to continue the drills with the U.S.

But not even a day after that decision was announced, it wasn't clear anybody else in the administration was on the same page as the president.

The reporter then corrected himself, saying "South Korea" before Mr Turnbull said "ah right, OK" and proceeded to answer the question.
