'Wake up Punchy!' - Trump jabs back at De Niro

'Wake up Punchy!' - Trump jabs back at De Niro”

De Niro, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of boxer Jake LaMotta in the 1980 film "Raging Bull", got a standing ovation at the Tony Awards on Sunday with his denunciation of President Trump.

"I watched him. and truly believe he may be "punch-drunk", he said.

"I'm going to say one thing: 'F-k Trump, '" De Niro, one of Trump's most high-profile Hollywood critics, told the audience while presenting an award.

With the audience of theater actors, directors and producers shrieking and rising to their feet in applause, De Niro said: "It's no longer down with Trump".

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday to wade into a feud with the actor Robert De Niro.

A day later, De Niro apologized - not to Trump but on America's behalf to Justin Trudeau, whom Trump insulted as "very dishonest & weak" after the Canadian prime minister threw shade on the president's trade policies.

Something that is objectively amusing: former De Niro fans destroying their memorabilia as a form of protest.

Yesterday De Niro apologised - not for his comments but on behalf of the USA president. Earlier this year, the "Godfather Part II" star called Trump a "jerkoff in chief" and "a f-king idiot".

He famously said he wanted to punch Trump "in the face" during the 2016 US Election, called him a "f***ing fool" and the "baby-in-chief" in January 2018, and the following month said the US was now suffering from a "case of temporary insanity".

Ahead of the 2016 presidential election, De Niro said he'd like to "punch [Trump] in the face".

'I just want to make a note of apology for the idiotic behavior of my president, ' he said.
