Who will win World Cup 2018? Vote for your champion!

Who will win World Cup 2018? Vote for your champion!”

USA, Canada and Mexico will host football's World Cup 2026 after it saw off a challenge from Morocco at the FIFA Congress.

The North American bid beat competition from Morocco, which was hoping to become just the second African country to host soccer's biggest worldwide tournament.

"It's a bit emotional for us today", Carlos Cordeiro, president of U.S. Soccer, said after the vote.

The officers, including from the 2022 World Cup host country Qatar, will rotate in and out of the 11 far-flung Russian cities where games will be held between June 14 and July 15. Instead of a small executive committee making the decision, this time it was done by a vote of FIFA's over 200 member nations.

That, along with the promise of major revenues from North American sponsors and television networks, was appealing to Federation Internationale de Football Association, an organization that has been beset by global corruption scandals, concerns over exorbitant costs related to previous tournaments, and allegations of widespread labor and human rights abuses around the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 2026 World Cup will head to North America for the fourth time and will be the first with 48 teams taking part.

Mexico has previously hosted two World Cups, in 1970 and 1986.

Canada staged the Women's World Cup in 2015.

For so long the United bid had looked like it would run unopposed but Morocco, a country that has pitched but failed to secure four previous tournaments, jumped into the fray last August and created a two-horse race that has proved to be unexpectedly competitive.

CONCACAF, whose president - Canadian Victor Montagliani - played a key role in the bid, called the vote a "monumental victory" for the confederation that covers North and Central America and the Caribbean. With a handful of games in Mexico and Canada but the majority in the US, the 2026 bid promises the richest and most lucrative tournament in the history of global soccer.

The 2026 installment will see the World Cup expand from 32 to 46 teams with the bloated format seeing a total of 80 games take place. The United Bid is expecting to make more than half that in ticket revenue alone. Antonio Carbajal and German legend Lothar Matthaus achieved the feat, while Gigi Buffon went to five World Cups but didn't make an appearance at France 1998.

But bid chief Hicham el Amrani said he was confident the country's infrastructure "could deliver" and made play of the North African nation's position, nine miles from the southern tip of Spain - dubbing it a "European" World Cup. It's not clear how that would work with three countries as co-hosts.

The 2026 World Cup will be the first competition where 48 nations will compete in the tournament, which is the biggest in the footballing world.
