World's Biggest Sports Event Will Return to North America

World's Biggest Sports Event Will Return to North America”

The 68th FIFA Congress will determine the site of the 2026 tournament, selecting from a joint North American bid submitted by Canada, the United States and Mexico, or a bid from Morocco.

Mexico previously hosted the World Cup in 1970 and 1986.

Federation Internationale de Football Association president Gianni Infantino on June 13.

But compared to North America, Morocco's bid existed largely on paper - many stadiums and roads would have had to have been built and critics questioned how it would have coped with the 2026 tournament, which will be expanded to 48 teams.

The U.S. metro areas in the running are Atlanta (Mercedes-Benz Stadium), Baltimore (M&T Bank Stadium), Boston (Gillette Stadium), Cincinnati (Paul Brown Stadium), Dallas (AT&T Stadium), Denver (Sports Authority Field), Houston (NRG Stadium), Kansas City (Arrowhead Stadium), Los Angeles (Rose Bowl and the new National Football League stadium), Miami (Hard Rock Stadium), Nashville (Nissan Stadium), New York (MetLife Stadium), Orlando (Camping World Stadium), Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field), San Jose (Levi's Stadium), Seattle (Century Link Field) and Washington (FedEx Field). The handsome game transcends borders and cultures.

"Football is the only victor", US Soccer boss Carlos Cordeiro said, according to BBC.

Morocco, which has now lost five bid campaigns, was classy in defeat - congratulating the North American winners. There was one abstention.

It is the fifth time Morocco has failed with a bid to host the tournament.

Reports have stated that Trump has been lobbying in the background, with letters being sent to Fifa officials, including the head of football's governing body, Gianni Infantino. The intercontinental playoff will be held somewhere in the United States, Canada or Mexico, perhaps in November 2025. That includes Adidas AG, Dalian Wanda Group, and Coca-Cola Co.

US, Mexico and Canada to host 2026 World Cup as Morocco lose out

Morocco, on the other hard, was viewed as a higher-risk choice. Canada, Mexico and the USA are home to a combined 491 million people and two of the world's biggest media markets.

Both bids were given a last chance to make their case with 15-minute presentations in front of Congress, at the Moscow Expocentre, where the North America bid pledged their tournament would generate an 11 billion dollar profit, while Morocco said theirs would make 5 billion.

Hosting a World Cup is a spectacle unlike any other, and in two cycles, the world's biggest competition will return to North America following Wednesday's vote.

Eight years ago, the US was in a similar position, when it bid for the 2022 tournament.

The event has since been moved to November to avoid Qatar's blistering summer temperatures, bribery accusations abound, and potential human rights violations at the stadium sites have caused outrage from the worldwide community.

Which cities would be hosting the 2026 World Cup?

.

Baltimore and M&T Bank Stadium fared well in FIFA's assessment of potential game venues, and the city is considered the favorite to host the World Cup Team Workshop, which brings together delegations from all 48 competing nations for a pretournament introduction to the World Cup's organization.

Canada's men's team has not played in the World Cup since 1986 but traditionally, host countries do get to play.
