New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr hits 232 not out, smashes women’s ODI record”

New Zealand's Amelia Kerr on Wednesday broke the record for the highest individual score in women's ODI in a match against Ireland in Dublin.

Seventeen-year-old White Ferns star Amelia Kerr had no idea about the records she was breaking in her monumental unbeaten 232 against Ireland this morning.

Kerr then took a five-wicket haul (5/17) as Ireland were bowled out for 135 to hand New Zealand a massive 305-run victory.

Kerr batted through the innings and surpassed the 229 not out set by Australia´s Belinda Clark against Denmark in 1997 with a four-four-six sequence from the final three deliveries as New Zealand posted 440 for three.

At just 17, the Kiwi star smashed the record for the highest ever women's ODI score against Ireland.

"It was just nice to get an opportunity to open and get some time out in the middle, I had to work hard at the start and then once I got through that I got going a bit", an understated Kerr said. The 17-year-old Kerr had scored less than 174 runs in ODI cricket before smashing the Irish bowlers to all parts of the ground during her innings of 232 not out of 145 deliveries. At 17 years & 243 days, Kerr also became the youngest double-centurion in global cricket - men and women included. The record was earlier held by Javed Miandad, who scored a double hundred in a Test match at 19 years and 140 days.

Kerr is now the second women and seventh overall cricketer to go past the 200-run mark in one-day global cricket.
