Saturn to reach opposition next to the Full Strawberry Moon Wednesday night

Saturn to reach opposition next to the Full Strawberry Moon Wednesday night”

Although you can look at the moon when it's high in the sky, you will have trouble if the skies are completely clear because of glare.

The ringed planet will be at its closest to the Earth and will be illuminated by the Sun.

Hot on the heels of the summer solstice, June's full Strawberry Moon - appearing at the beginning of the sunniest and warmest months of the year - is slightly unusual this month.

It is being said that the Saturn will be marking its presence throughout the night of Opposition.

The last full moon of Spring and the annual one for June, known as the Full Strawberry Moon, will hit full phase shortly after midnight strikes on Thursday, June 28.

Saturn will be at its closest point to Earth this week, allowing stargazers a pretty good look at the gas giant.

It's easy to see a full moon anywhere, but if you want the complete night experience, you can see the night sky better if you get further away from the light pollution of the city.

However, it will gradually become dimmer later in the summer and will set earlier and earlier each night.

"If you have never spotted Saturn's rings, now is your chance", AccuWeather Astronomy Blogger Dave Samuhel said. "A small telescope is all you need".

According to startdate.org, the public education and outreach arm of the University of Texas McDonald Observatory, Mars will shine like a "bright orange star" on the lower left of the moon on the 29th.

"Cloud-free conditions will lead to uninterrupted views of Saturn for much of the western and central United States on Wednesday night", the website reports.

"Near Saturn, the brightest asteroid, Vesta, is so bright that it can be seen with your unaided eye [and] will be visible for several months", NASA's JPL said. A second full moon in a month is called a "blue moon".

Then in late July, Earth and Mars will be the closest they've been since 2003.
