Child finds gun, fires shot inside Indiana Ikea store”

A day out shopping almost turned deadly for a couple of IN kids Monday after they reportedly found a gun IN a store couch cushion and pulled the trigger.

The incident happened inside an IKEA at Fishers, Indiana, CBS News reports.

Fishers police said the gun belonged to a customer who lost it when they sat on a couch to test it out.

He did not realize that his handgun fell out his trousers when he got up and walked away.

Later, a group of kids sat down on the sofa and found the gun, Fishers police told WTTV.

"We are co-operating with police as they investigate this incident".

"It's very important that if you are going to carry a firearm on you that you do make sure you're under control at all times".

The Hamilton County prosecutor is reviewing the case, KCRA reported.

In a statement, Ikea said it had apologized to the family of the child and was taking the incident seriously.

Authorities say the gun had fallen out of a customer's trousers as he sat down to test the sofa at the store in Fishers, Indianapolis, WTTV reports.

Attorney Guy Relford told WTTV News that violating Ikea's no-weapons policy in IN would not be considered illegal and that it would be hard to prove criminal recklessness in this case. "It's just part of gun ownership, responsible gun ownership", he said.

"Indiana has a strong [concealed-carry] law with low fees, no training requirement and full recognition of out-of-state permits", according to a ranking in Guns & Ammo magazine.
