Clippers reportedly trading Rivers to Wizards for Gortat”

Rivers, the son of head coach Doc, has been a contentious figure in Los Angeles since the Lob City days.

The Los Angeles Clippers are sending guard Austin Rivers to the Washington Wizards for center Marcin Gortat, according to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski Tuesday. Wall missed half of last season due to injury.

During Gortat's run, he helped the Wizards advance to the playoffs in four of his five seasons.

Last season, Gortat averaged 25.3 minutes per game, his fewest since his third year in the National Basketball Association, as well as 8.4 points and 7.6 rebounds. The 34-year-old veteran gives the Clippers some front-court insurance in the event big man DeAndre Jordan opts out of his contract later this week, or is traded. The No. 10 pick in the 2012 draft, Rivers has career averages of 9.4 points on 41.9 percent shooting, 2.4 assists and 2.0 rebounds. Doc has since lost some of his power, and Jerry West and Lawrence Frank are now in control - and free to trade Austin Rivers. If that doesn't happen, Gortat is a solid rotation piece on an expiring contract, so it's not like he'd be a millstone around the team's neck should Jordan agree to a long-term deal.
