Ghanaian killed in drive-by shooting in Canada

Ghanaian killed in drive-by shooting in Canada”

The deceased, Jenas Nyarko simply known as Maame Jane was reportedly shot during a sporadic shooting at Toronto's North York area in the early hours of Sunday, June 24 while returning from a funeral.

Dickinson says there's nothing in Nyarko's past to suggest she could have been targeted by the shooter, nor is there anything to suggest the three other people in the vehicle might have been targets. The spokesperson said she had life-threatening injuries. They are looking for a silver, 2010-2016 Cadillac SRX SUV, with a retractable sunroof.

Det. David Dickinson who is working on the case explained that there was nothing suspicious in Nyarko's record that could have indicated the shooting was targeted.

Police say the SUV had been circling the neighbourhood before the shooting.

31-year-old Jenas Nyarko moved to Canada from Ghana in 2001 and worked at a shelter.

"I'm appealing to anyone who can help me identify this Cadillac SUV and the responsible parties", Dickinson said.

Confirming the incident Detective Dave Dickinson of the Homicide Unit told MyNewsGh.com that they suspect Janas Nyarko was shot by individuals from another neighborhood in the city.

"This is a horrific crime because that could have been anybody and in this case, that is exactly what this narrative seems to say".

"I think that our street gang subculture is an issue right now when it comes to policing in the city", he said.

"Any life is a concern for me", Saunders said. "Any time anybody shoots a gun inside this city is a concern for me".

Mayor John Tory also responded to the violent attack at a news conference during the Pride parade Sunday afternoon.

Yet, despite those numbers, Saunders says that Toronto is still "the safest urban city when you look at [the] numbers".
