Eyes in the Sky This July for the Longest Total Lunar Eclipse

Eyes in the Sky This July for the Longest Total Lunar Eclipse”

Earlier this year, the world observed three lunar phenomena taking place together.

In July, the world will witness an absolutely rare astronomical phenomenon as a blood moon will be seen on the intermediary night of July 27 and 28. This time, the moon will turn an eerie shade of red, therefore being called Blood Moon and apparently this eclipse will be the longest of the century.

The January 31 sighting of a "blue Moon" and a total lunar eclipse occurred in India for the first time after 1982.

Also, all the elements present in our atmosphere, such as pollution or dust, influence the shade of the blood moon.

In the event that you were remaining on the moon, watching the Earth amid a lunar shroud, you'd see a ring of light around the Earth's edge as it goes before the sun. This will cause the earth's shadow to be cast on the moon.

When is the next blood moon?

There will be a total lunar eclipse in next month. This total lunar eclipse is especially long because the moon will be passing through the central part of the Earth's shadow.

Why is this Blood Moon the longest?

July's full moon will happen at the same time as the moon's apogee - which is when the Blood moon hits its furthest point from Earth in its monthly orbit, according to Earth Sky.

The Strawberry Moon is the most colorful of the year because it takes a low, shallow path across the sky, said Bob Bonadurer, director of the Milwaukee Public Museum's planetarium. In addition, on this eclipse, Mars will also be at its closest distance from Earth and will shine brightly - making the red planet will be clearly visible to the naked eye. From the beginning to the end, the Earth's natural satellite will take about 4 hours to cross the umbral shadow of the planet.

When will the eclipse occur?

During a lunar eclipse, the sunlight that reaches the surface of the moon is temporarily blocked by the Earth, thus creating the wonderful effect of an eclipse. We will have a full moon and a great view of Saturn. The event will begin with a partial eclipse till about 7.30 p.m. UTC, before the skies are graced with the especially long total eclipse. If you're in Vancouver, then you'll see a full Strawberry Moon appear tonight.
