DeAndre Jordan leaves Clippers, sets sights on Mavericks

DeAndre Jordan leaves Clippers, sets sights on Mavericks”

It is no surprise that Jordan is attempting to secure a deal with the Mavericks, but the two sides are not allowed to discuss and finalize a deal until July.

Jordan has spent his entire 10-year career with the Clippers, after getting drafted in the second round of the 2008 National Basketball Association draft.

ESPN reported it is a four-year deal that will be worth $160 million.

Jordan even showed improvement as a free throw shooter last season with a career-high 58 percent success rate. He now ranks fifth in National Basketball Association history in games played (1,471), third in minutes (50,573) and sixth in points (31,187), leading LeBron James by 149 points for the active National Basketball Association lead.

As a result of Jordan's decision, the Clippers will now lose their starting center without any potential return. The Mavericks reportedly did not want to surrender draft compensation in a trade to acquire Jordan, and the Clippers were reportedly resistant to taking veteran Wes Matthews back in a deal. The Clippers traded Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons last winter and Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets last summer.

The Golden State Warriors will explore their free agent chances with DeAndre Jordan. One of the more reliable players in the National Basketball Association, he played all 82 games three straight seasons, and owns the Los Angeles Clippers' record for consecutive games played with 322. Jordan can't officially sign a new contract until the moratorium ends next Friday, however.

However, Jordan won't be a free agent for long. But now the Mavericks are in prime position to sign Jordan with $27 million of salary cap space.
