Camera Company Light To Produce Smartphones

Camera Company Light To Produce Smartphones”

If the $1950 L16 (below) is anything to go by, the phone might appeal to photography fans but could come at a high price. The objective of the second lens for these smartphones is to help with zooming and to measure the depth of field, giving users the ability to create blurred backgrounds during the shot.

The company has commissioned Foxconn as an investor and said it would launch the smartphone featuring multiple lenses later this year. Ten or more of those lenses capture an image at the same time under different focal lengths; the camera stitches those images into a single 52-megapixel photo.

Light might have just been ahead of the curve with its product idea, but now that we're getting more used to the concept of multiple-lensed cameras, the company is working to bring a new smartphone to the world that will sport anywhere from five to nine lenses. Light says a smartphone with its multi-lens design will be announced later this year, but it will be interesting to see how those lenses affect the cost.

Light already has a camera called L16 with a 16 lens system, placed at various angles.

Take Essential, for example.

Cameras on smartphones are a much bigger deal than they used to be. But it still failed.

Users of this potential phone would have the power of a dedicated camera rolled up into the convenience of their smartphone, all while being able to fit snugly inside anyone's pocket.

The Post reports the setup will allow the phone to capture 64-megapixel shots. It's nice to see a company such as Light trying to innovate this department, and if it's going to head down the smartphone journey, it'll need all the help and luck it can get.
