LeBron James won't meet in person with Cavs when free agency starts”

He could be there longer than usual.

Free agency officially opened up yesterday and ESPN reported the number of teams James and his representatives, Rich Paul and Mark Termini, could be interested in will be small.

James flew into Van Nuys Airport Saturday morning on a private jet from Anguilla, according ESPN reporter Arash Markazi.

They are expected to pursue Los Angeles Clippers centre DeAndre Jordan, who reportedly declined his US$24 million option on Friday.

James' camp and the Cavaliers' front office have maintained a dialogue since the season ended, sources said. His reason for being there is unknown: The Lakers are considered a strong candidate to sign James, but he also has an offseason home in L.A.

The 76ers would seem a more logical destination if James wants to remain in the East and away from the Warriors, who have beaten the Cavs in the Finals three times in the past four years.

He would be eligible to sign a five-year, $205 million free-agent deal with Cleveland this summer. But he vowed to do everything he could to deliver a title to championship-starved Cleveland. His family is comfortable here and it's where he has complete control. The four-time MVP's max salary would be $152 million over four years if he signs with another team.

"That is an exact quote from my sources that said that Dan Gilbert said that".

Ball had problems with the knee during the regular season. If James had opted in, it would have put Cleveland in a disgusting situation. As their pursuit of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George continues, the Lakers are doing everything in their power to return to greatness.

According to OddsShark, the Lakers became -5000 favorites this afternoon - yes, read that again! - to sign LeBron.

There's little doubt James has some quality years ahead of him. The talent roster around him was compiled of washed up or forgotten players, with the exception of Mo Williams and Antawn Jamison. Well, at least young and outspoken center Embiid isn't. The Spurs will want the Lakers' best players for him and that may be too much. General manager Bryan Colangelo's resignation following an investigation into whether he created Twitter accounts to criticize his own players, has given the impression that the team isn't operating in concert and then would turn off James quickly. Even signings like Trevor Ariza or JJ Redick would be a huge help to the Cavs.
