Eight boys rescued from Thai cave recovering — Sunglasses and chocolates

Eight boys rescued from Thai cave recovering — Sunglasses and chocolates”

The Facebook page of the Thai Navy SEALs, who have been central to the rescue operation, was updated Monday night to say "two days, eight boars" - a reference to the Wild Boars, the name of the boys' soccer team.

Rescue operations chief Narongsak Osottanakorn described Sunday's initial rescue bid as "D-Day" when it was launched, and there were fears that any one of many potential pitfalls could prove deadly. They were missing for nine days before being discovered by British divers last week.

All of the boys were expected to remain in quarantine for up to a week before finally being allowed to go home and return to a life that will, likely, never quite be "normal" again.

The complex rescue mission to extract the football team has been ongoing for several days, with an global team of rescue divers leading each boy individually out of the cave complex, fitted with a full-face scuba mask and carrying a supply of oxygen so they can pass through kilometers of tapering tunnels flooded with monsoon rains.

Thai army soldiers return from Tham Luang cave on day three of the rescue operation.

The first four boys who were rescued from a Thai cave on Sunday have been given some chocolate.

Nargonsak said this phase may take longer than the previous two rescue missions.

After more than two weeks all 12 boys and their coach, stuck in the flooded Tham Luang Cave have been rescued by the Thai navy seal team.

As we enter the day three of the Thai cave rescue mission, the public health permanent secretary Dr Jesada Chokedamrongsuk, from the Ministry of Public Health and Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital, spoke to the media this morning (local time) about the health of the eight boys who have been rescued so far.

The boys also have a TV in their hospital room, but can't watch it yet for the sake of their mental health.

They said they were still waiting for a medic and three SEALs who had stayed with the boys in their dark refuge deep inside the cave complex to come out.

Two are being treated for a "minor" lung infection.

The group will now be transferred to a hospital in Chiang Rai's state capital where they will stay for observation for at least seven days.

HE said the eight boys rescued are in "high spirits" and have strong immune systems because they are soccer players. The first rescue on Tuesday took about five-and-a-half hours. "The equipment they brought to help us is not practical with our mission", the publication also quoted him as saying.

That left two boys and their 25-year-old coach still inside the cave but authorities were confident of getting them all out by Tuesday evening via a claustrophobic network of tunnels that in some places were completely filled with water.

The identity of the rescued boys has not been confirmed by authorities.

Officials scotched any chance of using tech billionaire Elon Musk's mini-sub made of rocket parts to rescue the remaining boys.
