Jamie Vardy sends Gareth Southgate update ahead of World Cup semi-final

Jamie Vardy sends Gareth Southgate update ahead of World Cup semi-final”

A young, inexperienced Three Lions outfit have reached a semi-final with Croatia despite modest expectations and Hurst has added to the praise Southgate has received for their run in Russian Federation.

After a dramatic win on penalties against Russia, Croatia will play England on Wednesday night (AEST) in front of 80,000 people in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium for a place in the World Cup final.

Yet while it was complete focus on the job in hand as the players prepared for what is the most high-pressure game of their global careers, the relaxed vibe surrounding the England base camp in Repino remained.

England's surprise run in Russian Federation has brought them to a World Cup semifinal, a feat not achieved by any Three Lions side since 1990, and excitement has reached new heights following Saturday's convincing 2-0 quarterfinal win over Sweden in Samara.

"We weren't aware of everything going on in the country as we were kept in a bubble", said Hurst, who added that none of the other teams still in Russian Federation should frighten England.

"I think it's a great idea", said Seligson, who for the Sweden game on Saturday wore another traditional English apparel, a bowler hat.

'We've played well, I think we've shown huge character.

"The only team I would have feared playing against is Brazil", he said.

"I may be going to the Croatia game as Henry VIII but I'll wear the waistcoat on top", he joked. 'It really is. That's the only word I can describe it because we're all a family.

He added: "Hopefully we had a long month together, which we have done".

We have never been favourites for a World Cup.

"But for us, it's all about the experience".

Raheem Sterling shrugged off the latest criticism aimed at the Manchester City forward to capture the feeling in the England camp and back home. But there are two or three, in particular, who we have to assess quite closely and see exactly what level they're at.
