Russian Federation 2018: Stones eyeing final spot with England

Russian Federation 2018: Stones eyeing final spot with England”

Croatia stand in the way of England making their first World Cup final since 1966 as the two teams meet in an intriguing Moscow semi-final.

England's last appearance at this stage was in 1990 when they lost in a penalty shootout to West Germany in Turin while eight years later, in their first World Cup as an independent nation, Croatia lost to hosts and eventual winners France.

Croatia had also needed spot-kicks to get past a dogged Denmark in the last-16, but Modric insisted they would not be exhausted for the last-four clash against England at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday. "We have two matches to play and we are very motivated".

"That is how highly I rate my former Tottenham team-mate Luka Modric".

Nearly £50 million has been matched on Betfair's World Cup victor market, and the encouraging news for England is that more than a third of bets have backed the Three Lions to win the tournament.

Revisiting his predictions ahead of the upcoming England vs. Croatia semi-final in Moscow, Neville allowed himself a pat on his own back before he urged England supporters to get behind Gareth Southgate's team. For long their national team hasn't justified their claim that they have the best league in the world.

"At this point we will not give up anything and will play against England with all the enthusiasm and passion of Croatian football".

"If we had England's money, who knows where we'd be in our country?" "Thank you for your support, I'm happy to see so many people here".

The bloody days of civil war are long gone; the children with fractured innocence are now carrying the flag of Croatia in the World Cup semifinal. When Ivan Rakitic's penalty sealed Croatia's spot in the semifinals, the coach broke down into tears. "It will be a battle again but I trust us, I have belief in us".

"They're fantastic players ... they're a fantastic team", Henderson said the pre-match press conference on Tuesday. "We want more", Modric said after tasting victory in the quarterfinal against Russian Federation.

Eleven years later the Barcelona midfielder is one step closer to the World Cup final and some hours away from the most important game of his career.
