Emmy nominations: 'Game of Thrones' leads with 22 nods”

Game of Thrones makes its Emmy comeback this year after last year's later season airdate saw it ineligible for consideration for the awards. Others in the category include "black'ish", "Silicon Valley", "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt". "Will & Grace, " another revival, got Emmy love for nominees Megan Mullally and Molly Shannon but the main stars and series itself were snubbed.

Besides the repeat nomination for Dowd, "The Handmaid's Tale" scored nods for Drama Series, Actress in a Drama Series (Elisabeth Moss), Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Joseph Fiennes), and two additional nominations for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Alexis Bledel and Yvonne Strahovski).

Three notable first-time nominees: Issa Rae for "Insecure", Ricky Martin for "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" and John Legend for "Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert". The series' 20 nods were the fourth-most for any show, finishing only behind "Game of Thrones" (22), "Saturday Night Live" (21), and "Westworld" (21). It got 23 nods in 2016 but wasn't eligible previous year.

"Game of Thrones", which sat out the awards a year ago because it missed the eligibility window, received 22 nominations, the most of any series.

This year's ceremony, broadcast from Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater, will be hosted by Saturday Night Live's Michael Che and Colin Jost.
