Federal Bureau of Investigation agent: My work has never been tainted by political bias

Federal Bureau of Investigation agent: My work has never been tainted by political bias”

House Republican leaders threatened to hold former FBI lawyer Lisa Page in contempt of Congress unless she agrees to testify by Friday morning about her role in the bureau's probes into Hillary Clinton's emails and President Donald Trump's suspected Russian Federation ties.

Thursday's hearing, which was the first public appearance Strzok has made since he became a central figure in the Russian Federation investigation, underscored the deep tensions on Capitol Hill over the FBI's investigations connected to the 2016 election.

"I can assure you Mr. Chairman, at no time in any of these texts did these personal beliefs ever enter the realm of any action I've taken".

"We'll stop it", Strzok texted Page in August 2016 - apparently referring to the prospect of Trump being elected president, according to a June report by the inspector general. "If you want to represent what you said accurately, I'm happy to answer that question, but I don't appreciate what was originally said being changed".

Peter Strzok, who helped lead FBI investigations into Hillary Clinton's email use and potential coordination between Russian Federation and Donald Trump's campaign, was testifying publicly for the first time since being removed from special counsel Robert Mueller's team following the discovery of the derogatory text messages past year. Strzok said the disparaging comments were merely political commentary between colleagues during a remarkably heated election.

"Lisa Page has finally agreed to appear before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees for a transcribed interview tomorrow", Goodlatte said in a statement.

"Mr. Chairman, I object", Nadler said.

Gowdy pressed him on why Mueller removed him from the Russian Federation probe if Strzok was not biased in any way.

"I think it's important when you look at those texts that you understand the context in which they were made and the things going on across America", said Strzok.

Gowdy repeated his question and Strzok repeated his answer, infuriating Goodlatte.

Strzok is unique in that he sent a series of text messages to senior Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer Lisa Page insulting Trump, and these were later made public by the Department of Justice.

"It was in response to a series of events that included then-candidate Trump insulting the immigrant family of a fallen war hero", Strzok said, "and my presumption based on that awful, disgusting behavior, that the American population would not elect someone demonstrating that behavior to be president of the United States".

"It's right on point", Nadler replied. Strzok, who has already spoken to the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees behind closed doors, is expected to testify publicly before the panels Thursday.

"Let me be clear, unequivocally and under oath: not once in my 26 years of defending my nation did my personal opinions impact any official action I took", Strzok said in the statement.

But that's unlikely to be the focus of Thursday's hearing.

"You have not stated a valid, legal basis for not responding to a question directed to you by a member of the United States House of Representatives", the chairman said, threatening to hold Strzok in contempt.
