Thai boys lost weight but generally well after cave ordeal

Thai boys lost weight but generally well after cave ordeal”

The head of the rescue team, Narongsak Osottanakorn, revealed yesterday that the cave will be turned into "a living museum".

Thongchai Lertwilairatanapong, a public health inspector, said earlier Tuesday that the boys lost an average of 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) while they were trapped.

The team, three of whom have lung infections, will now need to be monitored in the hospital for seven days and rest at home for another 30 days.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said on Wednesday the operation was nothing short of a miracle.

"To see all that heroic bravery in the cave, and to get all the divers out, it's just such a touching event and so personal to me", he said in a video on Twitter. filmed at the rescue site. At least one publisher told the paper that she'd be interested in reading a manuscript that includes details about the boys' coach, a former monk who reportedly taught the children meditation in the cave and gave up his limited supply of food and water so they could have more.

Rescuers provided medical aid and assessed the health of a group of teenage soccer players and their coach who have been stuck inside the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Chiang Rai province since June 23.

The commander of the navy SEAL unit that oversaw the rescue, Rear Admiral Apakorn Yuukongkaew, hailed the global effort.

"They had less than five meters' visibility, fought harsh currents and used a buddy system of two divers for each boy rescued".

In the end, the thin line between success and possible failure in the Thai cave rescue came down to a matter of hours. "For SEALs, this is what we were trained for. The divers carried them out and they were wearing wetsuits to keep them warm", Thai navy SEAL chief Apakorn Youkongkaew said.

The conditions in Thailand were "extreme", he said, adding: "If any people could execute this rescue successfully, it was our team of British divers".

The decision, a response to the global outpouring of love and support during the hard operation to rescue the boys, draws attention to the large numbers of stateless people living in Thailand, especially in its border regions.

The fate of the boys has even resonated as far as Russian Federation, where soccer's World Cup is reaching its final stages. "All the 13 Wild Boars are now out of the cave", the Thai Navy SEAL team that led the rescue posted on Facebook after completing its mission, Reuters reported.

French football star Paul Pogba dedicated his country's World Cup semifinal victory over Belgium to "the heroes of the day, well done boys, you are so strong" he tweeted.

"Amazing news that all of the Thai kids are out of the cave safely!"

The rescue was carried out by an elite team of worldwide divers, led by Britons, who guided the sluggish youngsters along the tortuous two-and-a-half-mile escape route, the Daily Mail reports.
