Serena Williams fights back the tears after Wimbledon final defeat

Serena Williams fights back the tears after Wimbledon final defeat”

Germany's Angelique Kerber claimed her first Wimbledon title with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 victory against seven-time champion Serena Williams on Saturday. I am just me, and that's all I can be. But I was trying to tell myself, "Go out there and play your best match", because I know that against Serena I have to play my best tennis, especially in the important moments.

It also stopped her joining Court, Evonne Goolagong and Kim Clijsters as the only mothers to win Grand Slam titles in the professional era. She could barely walk out of her house eight months ago.

In that regard, Williams scored a victory of outcome in reaching Wimbledon's final for a 10th time in her career - pushing herself to serve harder, run faster and do whatever was demanded to progress through the two-week competition.

"I just like to tell all the moms, like, I had such a long struggle to come back, and it was really hard", Williams said.

"I feel like I have a ways to go", Williams said.

As the great took center court Saturday at Wimbledon, it was also somewhat of a star-studded affair as some notable friends were right there cheering her on from the sidelines, reports USA Today. Serena already owns the record for most titles won during the Open Era.

Williams fought back hard to cut the deficit, making the score 3-2 to her advantage.

Kerber is a former No. 1 who has won two major trophies. "I can, you know, come out and be a contender to win Grand Slams". Coming back, you're such an inspiration for everyone.

"I'd just like to tell all the mums, like, I had such a long struggle to come back, and it was really hard". Get that desire back? "Now she's supporting me in a different role, but our friendship is still exactly the same", she said.

The women last played each other in 2016, when Williams beat Kerber.

Novak Djokovic prevailed in the men's semi final against Rafa Nadal. Afterward, neither woman quibbled over the late start, pointing out that tournament officials had no option otherwise and insisting it hadn't affected them.

Strong, fit and determined, Kerber wasn't rattled by Williams' powerful groundstrokes.

Unlike Duchess Kate with her signature blowout, Meghan has her hair pinned back in a loose bun, but otherwise they appear to have coordinated their looks nicely.

Kerber though needs to serve better to make sure she doesn't gift easy points to her American opponent, who is staring at history.

"We just wanted her to survive-10 months later, she's in the #Wimbledon final", the message read. I have so much to look forward to and I am just getting started.

When she does, we can't even imagine what the tweets will say. For Serena, surpassing Margaret Court (24 grand slam titles) and making more history at Wimbledon will have to wait, despite that she still had an incredible run given her return from pregnancy just a few weeks previously. "But I just tried to improve my game, not think too much about the results".
