Trump's Advice to Britain's May: 'Sue the EU'

Trump's Advice to Britain's May: 'Sue the EU'”

"Oh I think we're going to have a great trade deal, I've really no doubt about it", Trump said in the interview.

He added: "The deal she is striking is a much different deal than the one people voted on". "We're going into negotiations with them".

Preceding this advice, however, President Trump made several comments attacking the Prime Minister, particularly criticizing the way in which she has handled Brexit negotiations.

Her decision to reveal Mr Trump's freakish suggestion will be taken as a small act of revenge after his incendiary interview stoked the Brexiteer rebellion against her proposals to soften Brexit by keeping the United Kingdom in parts of the single market.

May's blueprint sparked two high-profile resignations in May's cabinet last week, with Brexit minister David Davis and Foreign Minister Boris Johnson abandoning their posts in advance of its publication.

Steve Bannon, Trump's former adviser, was even quoted by Britain's Daily Telegraph as saying that it was now time for Johnson to challenge May for her job. She said it for Mail on Sunday, as Reuters reports.

She added: "Things have moved on from that very clear message that Brexit means Brexit, and that is why we are rightfully questioning the legislation, putting forward new clauses and amendments, and saying not just to the Prime Minister but the whole of government reconsider, look again and work with us".

U.S. President Donald Trump and Britain's Queen Elizabeth II inspect a Guard of Honour, formed of the Coldstream Guards at Windsor Castle on July 13, 2018 in Windsor, England.

Trump said Queen Elizabeth, 92, was a "fantastic woman", adding: "up close, you see she's so lovely. and she's got a lotta years left".

The comments come after a contentious visit from the US president, during which he criticized May's approach to Brexit.

May's government has just published its long-awaited Brexit plans, which propose to keep Britain and the European Union in a free market for goods, with a more distant relationship for services. That has infuriated fervent Brexit supporters, who see it as a bad deal. Steve Baker, a senior lawmaker who served as a deputy to Davis in the Brexit ministry before resigning with his boss, said May had presided over a "cloak and dagger" plot to undermine Brexit.

May warned her party rebels on Sunday that wrecking her plan to forge a close relationship with the European Union post Britain's exit from the bloc could be disastrous.
