Brexit rebellion costs British PM May another minister”

On Monday, Brexit supporters targeted the government's so-called customs bill, hoping to toughen up her plans.

Ms Greening, who quit Theresa May's Cabinet in January, said Parliament is "gridlocked" over Brexit and the public should be given another vote that includes the option to remain in the European Union.

British Prime Minister Theresa May narrowly avoided a defeat in parliament at the hands of pro-EU lawmakers from her own party on Tuesday, fending off a rebellion that had threatened to deepen a crisis over her Brexit strategy.

Will enough Tory MPs vote against the customs bill for it not to pass, throwing the government into yet more chaos?

A senior Government minister arriving at the Commons to vote on the trade bill was in a filthy mood.

One of the amendments would enshrine in law that there would be no customs border down the Irish Sea between the island of Ireland and the British mainland.

But Downing Street, which agreed earlier to accept the four amendments, said they were "consistent" with the White Paper where it sets out how it wants to trade with the European Union in years to come.

In a BBC television interview on Sunday, Mrs May said she understood the strength of feelings driving the Brexit debate.

"It is with great deal of sadness that I have tendered my resignation as a Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Treasury", Mann said in a Twitter post in which he shared his resignation letter.

Britain's departure from the European Union is scheduled to begin in March, with the transition lasting through 2020.

It comes after the government announced earlier today that it was backing the amendment, tabled by Brexiteer Tories, to trade proposals relating to the UK-EU borders after Brexit. Her authority has been weakened with the resignations of major figures Boris Johnson and David Davis and a series of lesser officials who disagree with her Brexit plan.

Hammond told MPs: "This does not undermine the bill, it keeps it on the road".

And he said he was concerned the plan would become "even more compromised" in negotiations with the EU.

Labour's Paula Sherriff said she had "important meetings" scheduled for next week and would vote against the move.

A Commons motion entered by Leader of the House Andrea Leadsom on Monday night says that "this House at its rising on Thursday 19 July 2018 do adjourn until Tuesday 4 September 2018", without allowing a debate by MPs.

Also, earlier in the day, The Guardian wrote: "Vote Leave has been fined £61,000 and reported to the police by the Electoral Commission after the watchdog found "significant evidence" of coordination with another campaign group, BeLeave".
