Donald Trump's presidency draws all round criticism

Donald Trump's presidency draws all round criticism”

Donald Trump has sided with Vladimir Putin against his own intelligence agencies by denying Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 USA presidential election.

Schwarzenegger, who has attacked Trump over a number of issues in the past, wasn't the only Republican to repudiate the president's performance in Helsinki.

There were indications of an arrangement to work together and with Israel to support a ceasefire in southern Syria, suggesting that the United States administration is backing off its demand that Moscow's ally Bashar al-Assad step down.

Mr Trump did not respond; Mr Putin appeared to smirk.

In tweets Monday, Mr Trump continued to undermine the investigation and blamed his predecessor, Barack Obama, for failing to stop Russia's efforts to sway the 2016 election in Mr Trump's favour. Asked if Russian Federation was at all to blame for the poor ties, he said: "I hold both countries responsible".

He added that Mr Putin suggested the USA should provide its intelligence to the Russian military so Russia can determine the truth of what happened. "It makes us less safe", Biden said.

Trump is holding a joint press conference with Putin after the two met one-on-one for about two hours.

Putin also suggested Monday that Moscow and Washington could jointly conduct criminal investigations into a dozen Russian intelligence officials accused of hacking during the 2016 US election campaign - an idea Trump hailed as an "incredible offer". And it will likely embolden Putin, who faced no pushback from Trump over the election allegations or a long list of other Kremlin actions, ranging from Syria to Ukraine.

On his way home, Trump insisted in a post on Twitter that he has "GREAT confidence in MY intelligence people".

On the question of nuclear tensions on the Korean peninsula, Mr Putin praised the U.S. leader over efforts to resolve difficulties with North Korea. The comments received strong criticism across the media world and even by some Republican members of Congress.

"You were very strong at the end of the press conference".

In a Monday press conference, President Trump did not attempt to push back on Russian President Vladimir Putin's assertion that Russia did not interfere with the 2016 election. He said Mr Trump's refusal to condemn Russian interference in the 2016 election made the U.S., "look like a pushover".

Cohen, who has given an interview to George Stephanopoulos, did not mention Trump in his tweet. But Mr Trump's hold on the GOP is being put to the test by his willingness to align with Mr Putin, a leader whom Republicans routinely describe as an enemy of the United States.

"Please get this rubbish out of your heads", the Russian leader said.

The two leaders appeared relaxed at the Helsinki news conference, smiling on occasion, in contrast to their sombre demeanour at the start of the day.

His manner towards Putin was also a contrast to the anger Trump flashed at North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies at a combative summit of the alliance in Brussels last week, which critics said would only hearten Putin.

The assumption in both leaders' remarks was that the civil war in Syria was coming to a close, but Putin defended the need to crush terrorists in south-west Syria while keeping the forces of Syria and Israel separated, referring specifically to the treaty of 1974 that ended the Yom Kippur war and designated the lines of separation between Israel and Syria. And it came at the end of an extraordinary trip to Europe in which Trump had already berated allies, questioned the value of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation alliance and demeaned leaders including Germany's Angela Merkel and Britain's Theresa May.

While Trump did not hand Putin any policy wins in Helsinki, he didn't obtain any either.
