Syrian government seizes strategic hill overlooking Golan Heights”

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said government forces fired more than 800 missiles at an area between northern Daraa and the Quneitra countryside, about 4 kilometres, or 2.5 miles, from the frontier with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Some 200 displaced Syrians approached the Israeli border on Tuesday, some of them waving white flags, in an apparent effort to reach out to the Jewish state for assistance as Syrian dictator Bashar Assad's forces move into the area as part of a military operation against rebel-held areas in the country's southwest.

"Bombardments have also hit areas in [neighbouring] Daraa province", he said.

Still, there are major questions about Putin's ability to enforce any agreement involving Iran's actions in Syria, even if he offers to deploy troops to police the border areas in question.

Trump said they also wanted to help the Syrian people on a humanitarian basis.

The Daraa onslaught took less than three weeks to break the rebels' grip, with the regime now in control of more than four-fifths of that province's territory, the Observatory said.

In addition to retaking the main border crossing between Damascus and the Jordanian capital of Amman, the Syrian regime has retaking dozens of villages in the Daraa province and on Monday clashed with rebels over the strategic Tel al-Haara which overlooks the Golan Heights.

A rebel official, Abu Shaima, said at least 500 fighters were going to get on around 15 buses and that his bus was already on the road north to opposition-held Idlib province.

"Buses began moving from the gathering point towards the edge of the city to be searched", he told AFP.

The monitor said an estimated 1,400 people were expected to be evacuated on Sunday.

Israel has been on high alert in recent days as Syrian government forces advance against foreign-backed terrorists near the Golan Heights.

Rebels began handing over their heavy weapons on Saturday and continued to do so on Sunday morning.

Pro-government troops, backed by Russian air support, have edged ever closer to the border area with Israel since recapturing much of the territory from rebel hands in the southern province of Deraa.

The U.S. has been pushing for Russian Federation to help eliminate Iran's role in Syria, something the Kremlin says can't be achieved.

Mr Abdel Rahman said that unlike in Deraa, fighter planes had not been used in the Quneitra offensive and that Russian Federation was not yet taking part.

Syria's conflict has killed more than 350,000 people since March 2011, although the United Nations has long stopped keeping count of casualties in the seven-year conflict.
