Wenger regrets 'sacrificing everything' at Arsenal for 22 years

Wenger regrets 'sacrificing everything' at Arsenal for 22 years”

Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn believes that Arsene Wenger's "obsession" with leading the club back to glory resulted in him staying for so long. "I've neglected my family, I've neglected many people close to me", he said. I'm someone who likes to move around a lot, but I also like a challenge.

No matter how many Arsenal fans were certain that he had overstayed his welcome in the last few years, none of us can criticise the great things he did for the club in the first decade.

Wenger revealed earlier this week that staying with the Gunners for 22 years may have been a mistake, claiming that he had been a "prisoner of my own challenge" during his time at the club.

There are long-term links with Paris-Saint Germain, who appointed Thomas Tuchel as head coach this summer, as well as a possible return to Japan where Wenger managed before his move to Arsenal in 1996. He has a lot of experience and I hope for him and Arsenal that he is successful with the club'. He misses out on a lot of other things.

Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes Unai Emery's appointment as manager is the best bit of business the club have done this summer.

He added that he was confident that former Arsenal stars Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry had the ability to succeed as top managers. They have all the qualities; they are intelligent, they know football, they have excellent skillset, but do they want to sacrifice what needs to be sacrificed to do only that? "You wake up at 3am thinking about team selection, tactics, formation..."

"'He had a lot of pressure on his shoulders, so sometimes you need to say 'thank you very much for everything, but I need a rest".

Wenger also admitted he has to keep up his running because he loves a trip to a French patisserie - and that if he were president of France, he would introduce compulsory football to every school.
