Xbox reveals plans for Gamescom 2018

Xbox reveals plans for Gamescom 2018”

While no one was really expecting Microsoft to debut these new consoles at Gamescom next month, the phrase "Xbox hardware" is enough to pique anyone's interest. But don't get your hopes up for a massive console reveal just yet.

It's doubtful the company would out the successor to the Xbox One X this way, so set your expectations around possible hardware revisions or controllers.

Even though the current generation Xbox One was initially released in late 2013 and saw subsequent updates with the Xbox One S and Xbox One X in 2016 and 2017 respectively, we aren't likely to see next-generation Xbox hardware at the event. It seems unlikely that they'd unveil something "all-new" so soon and at an event like Gamescom, but that's exactly what Major Nelson is saying.

"All new Xbox hardware and accessories" are on the docket for Microsoft's announcements at the big European gaming show Gamescom next month.

In addition, the Xbox FanFest is returning to Gamescom this year.

Forza Horizon 4, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and State of Decay 2's Daybreak Pack 2 are all name-checked, though.

Lastly, Microsoft announced a handful of games that will be present on the show floor at their booth space.

Perhaps we'll see the first Project Scarlett device during Microsoft's Inside Xbox stream at Gamescom. We'll just have to tune in to the live show at 4:30 PM CEST on Tuesday, August 21 to find out. And although there's the mention of "a few surprises" it's unclear whether they'll announce any major new AAA games.
