Senate unanimously opposes Russian Federation questioning U.S”

President Trump told "CBS Evening News" anchor Jeff Glor Wednesday it's "true" Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election, and he "would" hold Russian President Vladimir Putin responsible for interference. "But it's undeniable that the Russians are taking the lead on this". "The White House has announced on Twitter that Vladimir Putin is coming to the White House in the fall".

On Wednesday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said the Trump administration would consider allowing Russians to question Americans.

The Senate effectively rebuked Trump for considering Putin's request to question US officials, including President Barack Obama's former USA ambassador to Moscow, amid rising concern in Washington that the rest of the USA government still doesn't know what happened in Trump and Putin's private meeting in Helsinki on Monday. Forty-two percent of registered voters said they approved of Trump's overall job performance, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll taken after the summit. Answering questions from reporters, Trump stopped short of condemning Russia's meddling in the 2016 United States election and appeared to take Putin's denial at face value.

The Republican-led Senate signaled unease with President Donald Trump's shifting policies toward Russian Federation after his meeting with Vladimir Putin as the White House announced the USA president is seeking a repeat summit in Washington later this year.

Confusion over Mr Trump's position took another turn when he appeared to reject suggestions that Russian Federation might try again to influence American elections, prompting a hasty denial by the White House. It was Congress' first formal rebuke of Trump's actions from the summit and its aftermath.

As for Putin's offer on investigations, Sanders it was "made in sincerity" and the USA hopes he will have the indicted Russians "come to the United States to prove their innocence or guilt".

At the news conference with Putin, he was asked if he would denounce what happened in 2016 and warn Putin never to do it again, and he did not directly answer. On Wednesday, Trump answered "no" to a reporter's question on whether Russian Federation was still targeting the United States, only to have Sanders say hours later he was saying "no" to answering any questions - not to the question itself.

"That's not going to happen", U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told CBN News on Thursday.

The Senate, though, made their stance on the suggestion official with a resolution introduced by Sens.

The information includes stolen emails from the Democratic National Committee that had been seen in Russian military intelligence networks by the British, Dutch and American intelligence services, The Times said.

US President Donald Trump and Russia's President Vladimir Putin shake hands as they meet in Helsinki.

At the Hudson Institute think tank in Washington last Friday, Coats said, "We are not yet seeing the kind of electoral interference in specific states and voter data bases that we experienced in 2016; however, we fully realize that we are just one click on a keyboard away from a similar situation repeating itself".

Amid the backlash, the president later said he misspoke when he cited Putin's "extremely strong and powerful" denial of Russian meddling - despite the conclusions by USA intelligence services.

A few days ago, Coats said America's digital infrastructure is at a critical point, comparing the current moment to the one before September 11, 2001 and declaring that the warning lights are "blinking red". Trump also met with Putin past year in Germany and Vietnam. "It's important that a full-scale meeting has finally taken place allowing us to talk directly".

While he praised Trump's mediation efforts in North Korea, Putin slammed his decision to pull out of the worldwide accord curbing Iran's nuclear activities.

An official visit by a Russian president to the United States is a rare event: the last time was in June 2010 with Dmitri Medvedev, now Russian prime minister. "Of course, let's see how events will develop further", he said, without disclosing the nature of the agreements he referred to.

Then on Tuesday, Trump backpedaled and said he misspoke.

She made her comments at the Aspen Security Forum.
