Trump now says no 'time limit' to denuclearize North Korea

Trump now says no 'time limit' to denuclearize North Korea”

Earlier in June, US broadcaster NBC News reported that US intelligence agencies believed North Korea continued producing fuel for its nuclear programme.

Meanwhile, he stressed that sanctions aimed at punishing the North for its nuclear weapons program will remain in place.

South Korean media had earlier carried a similar report, citing interviews with some of the women and their North Korean male manager who came to South Korea with them.

The issue resurfaced this month when a United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in North Korea called for a "thorough" and "independent" investigation after he met with some of the defectors in question.

The newspaper did not mention Mr Moon by name but pointed to his remarks during a visit to Singapore last week that North Korea and the United States would face the "stern judgement" of the global community if their leaders fail to keep the promise they publicly made.

China, which accounts for the vast majority of North Korea's foreign trade, has said it was enforcing the sanctions, despite skepticism from some analysts.

An editorial in the official state newspaper of the North Korean ruling party, Rodong Sinmun, argued that South Korea has been exaggerating its role in denuclearization talks between Pyongyang and Washington. He told reporters on Tuesday, "we have no time limit".

"Sanctions against the North were much more intense previous year", a BOK official told journalists, adding that bad weather was also a factor. "We're just going through the process", Yonhap quoted Trump, as saying during a Congress meeting at the White House.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also seems to be in favor of a fast denuclearization process.

More than a month later, no concrete progress has been reported and North Korea has complained that the United States is making unilateral demands.

North Korean Son Kwon Geun, center, weeps with his South Korean relatives as he bids farewell after a separated-family reunion meeting at Diamond Mountain resort in North Korea in October 2015. This is the first return of remains since 2007.

The discussions resulted in a signed joint statement that committed both sides to establishing new relations and a path to peace on the Korean Peninsula.

UN Resolution 2397, adopted in December previous year, . allows a country to capture and look into a vessel suspected of engaging in illicit activities with North Korea.

Seoul says it will punish those found to be responsible for the alleged illegal entry of North Korean coal into the country if necessary.
