Here's Why Facebook Is Thinking About Launching a Satellite Into Orbit”

According to the filing, the social-media behemoth embarks upon, with a goal to "efficiently provide broadband access to unserved and underserved areas throughout the world". Connecting remote parts of the world and bringing the entire globe online has been their self-proclaimed mission for a while.

Facebook officially confirmed that they are working towards launching their satellite project soon.

On Thursday, Google parent Alphabet's Loon unit, which is designing balloons to deliver Internet to the planet's hard-to-reach areas, announced that it has signed its first commercial deal in Kenya.

In June, Facebook announced it made a decision to abandon its plan to develop high-flying solar-powered drones called Aquila that was aimed to deliver Internet to almost four billion people in remote parts of the world. They have already launched a satellite this February called Starlink. Apparently, Facebook is surreptitiously experimenting with a satellite that might be capable of beaming internet down to Earth via millimeter wave radio signals. Now, we will have to wait a bit to see how the company competes with its rival and contribute to bringing the worldwide internet access.

The company Facebook started to create satellites that will be deducted from the orbit of the Earth. Geostationary satellites are used to provide internet services. According to exchanges in April, the same lawyer seeks a meeting to discuss his client's "small satellite experimental application" variably referred to as PointView Tech LLC or FCL Tech.

The social media giant joins Elon Musk's SpaceX and Softbank-backed OneWeb, in working towards making internet accessible to the world through satellite communication with this.

However, as detailed reports in the technical press suggest, if the "Facebook" satellite is a singleton then its downlink time will be limited to eight minutes per overhead pass, and to even begin global coverage it would have to have "thousands" of orbiting satellites in operation.
