Russian Federation slams United States general, says he 'discredited' Trump”

In Helsinki, Putin said for the first time that he had wanted Trump to win the 2016 us presidential election and after the summit complained about political forces in the United States trying to undermine the meeting's outcome.

President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Helsinki on July 16.

He said the proposal had been passed on to the Russians by Trump's national security advisor John Bolton.

Putin's top foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov said that several days after the Helsinki meeting the Kremlin received a United States proposal to organise a new summit in Washington "at the end of the year".

However, Putin never accepted Trump's invitation to meet in Washington.

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow has found what she calls a "misleading" gap in the press conference video from the Trump-Putin Helsinki summit.

Back in Washington, Trump said he supported his intelligence officials and their conclusion, often coupling it with his oft-repeated statement that his campaign did not collude with the Russians and that the Russian interference had no effect on the outcome of the election.

"I would want to make sure that this isn't something that we stepped into lightly", Votel, the commander of US Central Command, said when asked about the idea of the US and Russian Federation working together to facilitate the return of refugees.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the USA would never recognise Russia's annexation of Crimea, and would continue to insist that Ukraine's territorial integrity be restored. "New Day" host Alisyn Camerota insisted that the question was "deleted from the transcript" because "they don't want the public to see that anymore".

A majority of Americans - 59 percent - surveyed said that building better relations with Russian Federation is a good thing, while 32 percent believe that Moscow should be treated as a threat to the U.S. There was a notable split on party lines, with 47 percent of Republican respondents saying Trump was not hard enough on Russian Federation while an overwhelming 82 percent of Democrats said the same. We've included the entire video clip of the exchange below (including the omitted portion of Mason's question).

One unanswered question on Wednesday was whether Bolton's statement effectively amounted to a policy that means Putin can not come to the United States so long as Mueller's work continues.

Pompeo also called attention to the military aide the United States is providing to Ukraine and Georgia that, as he said, was not forthcoming under President Barack Obama.

Trump said that Putin felt "very strongly about it" and had "an interesting idea" about how to settle the matter, without elaborating. "[But] looking at it critically, he spent a good chunk of that press conference, just like President Trump did, denying any collusion".
