Teen seriously injured in 'Hot Water Challenge'”

An Indianapolis, Indiana teen, 15-year-old Kyland Clark, is speaking out on the dangers of a social media challenge because he received severe burns after unwittingly participating in one.

While the teen was sleeping, his friend reportedly dumped boiling water on him, causing serious burns on his back, chest and face.

An Indianapolis family is raising a red flag about the so-called "Hot Water Challenge" after the unsafe prank resulted in a 15-year-old being severely burned.

A 15-year-old is healing from second-degree burns on his back, chest and face after his friend poured boiling water on him for the internet's so-called "Hot Water Challenge".

The 15-year-old Indianapolis, Ind., native told Fox 59 News this week that the pair had been looking up the "Hot Water Challenge" on YouTube last week when his friend made a decision to try the internet prank on Clark after he fell asleep. "And then I went and looked in the mirror and I had skin falling off right here and on my face". He had to stay in the hospital for a week while undergoing treatment.

The Hot Water Challenge is actually not new, as it has been circulating on video-sharing websites and social media since as early as 2013 or 2014.

Kyland Clark, 15, says he'll be back out shooting hoops soon, but for now, he is still wearing the scars of a unsafe internet challenge. For his mother Andrea, it was one of her worst nightmares.

"It's suggesting to people that they can try it and they won't be hurt, but they will be, I can guarantee it", Bartkus told Fox 59.

Kyland and his mother also want to make it known how unsafe the challenge is.

In Florida, a variation of the challenge tragically killed an 8-year-old girl last summer after she attempted to drink boiling hot water through a straw.

Kyland is recovering from his injuries. "Don't take it overboard", Kyland said.

Doctors said they are hopeful that Clark's injuries won't be permanent.
